Choosing yours

This was the third piece of work that I have made up for the Raceform Updates series on hurdling. This article related to identifying horses early on, who could be a good choice to follow through the season, I thought about different options for this image such as timelines, aging, young and older horses etc. In the end I felt that going with something simple as above, was best for conveying the general message of identifying your horse to follow.

Hurdling

This was the second illustration for this series, which went to print today. This story was about what makes a good hurdler, and how some horses that are still talented and may go on to be very successfull still dont perform well at the hurdles. The horse depicted was Big Bucks, and I chose to go down an anatomical route for this concept.
The image was drawn out in a sketch, and then coloured and finished in Photoshop.

Basic Principles

This was the first of five images I have been asked to produce for the Raceform Update, this is a weekly publication that runs as part of the Racing Post group. This first image was related to the basic principles of horses running hurdles. And how some flat horses don't always perform well when moving on to run hurdles.

Arrago - triptych

I started these the other night as I sat indulging in music and food, as just to put ink down onto paper felt a wonderful thing again to feel the ink run out from the brush, I also found the joy again of using watercolour graphite and then a synthetic water brush to bleed the pigment. is tryptych was a response to themes and thoughts I was feeling that evening of fragility, strength of emotion of feeling enclosed but also open and soaring quite a rollercoaster of emotion that evening and this week. I want to look at paint again next. and continue with the sketches.

RP Diary Images

I was asked at work this week to produce 2 Illustrations, that would feature in the front and back pages of a Racing Post Diary that will be made up for 2011. Having originally been given a 2 week Deadline, this was cut to .. only 4 days... So with a lot of rushed sketching, and crosshatching, I managed to produce something that was acceptable, but that I really wished I had been able to spend another 10 days finishing and refining, but isnt that always the way with these things.

Update

Ok, I have been slacking definately with updated artwork, but in my defence I have been working alot in the past few months, plus my trip to Nepal as mentioned, and various other bits and pieces freelance projects and so forth. So here at least is a small update on my ongoing images. I have several on the go, and I do always keep my sketchbook going too. I have some more Equine work coming up to add in also. I will try to update much more often, I must finish my other wolf Image, so several to come. Thanks for reading, please leave comments ^^

Its been a long time since I've made any updates the two images above were done recently the top one appearing in the racing post as an editorial Illustration. The lack of updates has been mainly due to the busyness of the past few months the first part of the year was taken up by preparing for my trip to Nepal which I will make a post about soon, but for now theres these two right here, both done digitally
