Self Portraits

Static
This was another piece produced using the gum arabic and ink technique with some gouache added as accent colouring. The mood and feeling behind this was one of solitude isolation and timelessness. With several representative elements relating to the characters feelings and sense of lonelyness. I would like to look again at this character and subject matter as I like the technique and composition of media, but I feel that with some larger negative space the atmosphere and character could be significantly stronger.

I am uploading some of my other works that I have had around for a while now, over Xmas I will be checking through my stock of work to find any other appropriately finished pieces that I can add to display. This was an Illustration that was based around the concept of perfumes being potentially unisex. Based on a Guardian article.

Dark Skies
This image I made an initial start on last night, working with Gouache, ink and Acrylic. There is a large degree of mood and atmosphere in this. all the detail so far needs to be worked on further as I want a complex level and mixture of line and gradiation within the sky and its relationship to the stones, and the figures that surround the, I felt it was important to included figues with the stones, as these places were of such importance to the people who created them. The relationship of the people who worshipped around them is as important as the stones themselves.

Haye & Goliath (Haye wins)
This was the final image that was used on the back page of the paper (Racing Post) It took a fairly long while i would estimate maybe 8 hours or so. Was awkward though because on heading back to my parents house for a week where i had time to finish this off, I forgot to take my Wacom, so I ended up finishing about 25% of the image using just a mouse o_o still I was pretty pleased with the final work, and it looked good in the context of the page. My editor was happy :D

Amo update
Here is my latest update of this fairly complicated image I have been working on, its nearly ready to start having tone and colour added, its taken me a long time now, and again I had neglected to continue on and finish it but now this is on my current to finish list. And I am hoping to be taking it to the final stages very soon.

Saegoleur
This is the first thing I have been able to do for ages since I have just recieved my new computer today. So from here on, its going to be work work, really planning on pushing the illustration and graphics properly forward as I was in the start of this year.
This is the first stage of this image and the time on this is only an hour so far. Will update it as it goes along.

Amo Roshan
This is an image I began work on last night, I am looking to try and produce a series of Illustrations in a similar style, so that I can group them together for an Exhibition. I also want to build up the portfolio, and this style is finally getting towards what I have wanted to be able to produce for a long time, combining the elements of realism, Japanese Anime influences, as well as abstraction and conceptualisation

Sunshine Equine
This was the next stage, this took a further 2 hours, I simply layed some colour onto a contrasted copy of the original sketch. This artwork is still in progress, the image that will be published in the paper only required to be mono, so this image was taken into photoshop and transferred to mono. Then some light digital manipulation was added just to darken and add depth to certain areas, as well as colour correction and sharpening – Please note that the mono image whilst the final version so far, is prepared for Newspaper printing, this is why it appears over-sharpened and contrasty.
Goodbye Horses
Money Money
This was the third image I produced this week, for publication in the Racing Post to accompany, some youth fiction being published in the paper. This related to an article about a character who worked in a betting call center; he was stealing information in order for him to place bets and win large sums of money with very low risk to his own spending.

Leopar
Rather than wait and sit down this week and do a nice long painting using the reference sketches i decided to jump in tonight enjoy some music for an hour and see what i could do just using the scans, so for an hours work i didnt think it was too bad really. Looking forward to planning an image using the sketches and working out a proper concept and composition.
