StoneH update

A further update on this image, I think its moving towards being finished now.

A portrait, in oils.

Self Portraits

Simply two self portraits, these were done a few years ago now, but for the sake of showing a broader spectrum of work I am adding some of my archive work up to the blog.

Static

This was another piece produced using the gum arabic and ink technique with some gouache added as accent colouring. The mood and feeling behind this was one of solitude isolation and timelessness. With several representative elements relating to the characters feelings and sense of lonelyness. I would like to look again at this character and subject matter as I like the technique and composition of media, but I feel that with some larger negative space the atmosphere and character could be significantly stronger.

Blackwall

This was an image I did based around some text and observations of London streets and environments. This was produced using ink, gum arabic and gouache

Vibe Bar

Vibe bar is a bar and venue near to Brick lane in London. This was a speculative design for an event they were hosting.

Scentwave

I am uploading some of my other works that I have had around for a while now, over Xmas I will be checking through my stock of work to find any other appropriately finished pieces that I can add to display. This was an Illustration that was based around the concept of perfumes being potentially unisex. Based on a Guardian article.

Dark Skies

This image I made an initial start on last night, working with Gouache, ink and Acrylic. There is a large degree of mood and atmosphere in this. all the detail so far needs to be worked on further as I want a complex level and mixture of line and gradiation within the sky and its relationship to the stones, and the figures that surround the, I felt it was important to included figues with the stones, as these places were of such importance to the people who created them. The relationship of the people who worshipped around them is as important as the stones themselves.

Haye & Goliath (Haye wins)

This was the final image that was used on the back page of the paper (Racing Post) It took a fairly long while i would estimate maybe 8 hours or so. Was awkward though because on heading back to my parents house for a week where i had time to finish this off, I forgot to take my Wacom, so I ended up finishing about 25% of the image using just a mouse o_o still I was pretty pleased with the final work, and it looked good in the context of the page. My editor was happy :D

Bubbly Totti

This image of a greyhound I worked up tonight after some small digital work on the Street scene, I wanted to get back into using real inks again which I have neglected recently, so this is one image that I will next be looking to colour up using either Inks or gouache.

Amo update

Here is my latest update of this fairly complicated image I have been working on, its nearly ready to start having tone and colour added, its taken me a long time now, and again I had neglected to continue on and finish it but now this is on my current to finish list. And I am hoping to be taking it to the final stages very soon.

Beelo

Here is an image that I have literally just sketched today, will be taking this into photoshop and working on it further. I will look to just create some simple pastel tones, and nice contrast with perhaps some small other elements.

Street update

Here is the updated version of the streets image, again havent been able to do anything to it until recently but now am hoping to have it finished very soon

Saegoleur

Ok here was another one i have quickly thrashed out tonite was on a bit of a flow and this one seemed to come quite easily, used a few of my sketches from my book as reference, was pretty pleased how it came out for again about 50 minutes work,

more to come

This is the first thing I have been able to do for ages since I have just recieved my new computer today. So from here on, its going to be work work, really planning on pushing the illustration and graphics properly forward as I was in the start of this year.

This is the first stage of this image and the time on this is only an hour so far. Will update it as it goes along.

Amo Roshan

This is an image I began work on last night, I am looking to try and produce a series of Illustrations in a similar style, so that I can group them together for an Exhibition. I also want to build up the portfolio, and this style is finally getting towards what I have wanted to be able to produce for a long time, combining the elements of realism, Japanese Anime influences, as well as abstraction and conceptualisation

Sunshine Equine

This was the next stage, this took a further 2 hours, I simply layed some colour onto a contrasted copy of the original sketch. This artwork is still in progress, the image that will be published in the paper only required to be mono, so this image was taken into photoshop and transferred to mono. Then some light digital manipulation was added just to darken and add depth to certain areas, as well as colour correction and sharpening – Please note that the mono image whilst the final version so far, is prepared for Newspaper printing, this is why it appears over-sharpened and contrasty.

Goodbye Horses

This was the image at the Sketch stage, the time up to this point to produce the artwork was roughly 6 hours.

Money Money

This was the third image I produced this week, for publication in the Racing Post to accompany, some youth fiction being published in the paper. This related to an article about a character who worked in a betting call center; he was stealing information in order for him to place bets and win large sums of money with very low risk to his own spending.

Leopar

Rather than wait and sit down this week and do a nice long painting using the reference sketches i decided to jump in tonight enjoy some music for an hour and see what i could do just using the scans, so for an hours work i didnt think it was too bad really. Looking forward to planning an image using the sketches and working out a proper concept and composition.

Snow Leopard

I took a trip to the Natural History museum at the weekend and produced a few sketches ranging from 3 hours to 25 minutes.

Tigrrrrrr

Toucan

Hummingbird group

Thursday 12 March 2009

Digitally worked version of my hummingbird Sketch i had managed to forget about, again I can image working a lot more detail into this and creating a designed area for it to sit within.
Concept for Soupa design, just a rough working, needs alot more integration and blending, as well as background and foreground detailing

Anga

Tablet sketches

Inkgirl

A few very loose very fast sketches done in Adobe

Slum Streets

Havent added anything new for quite a while but am going to be continually more active hopefully in the near future, for one thing I am going to start using my sketches as in this image to create final artworks
